Twitter, earlier this month, rolled out an upgraded version of its web based interface. The upgrade changed the way we have known Twitter so far. The upgrade means that among other things now you will see the profile bio on top of a profile instead on the left side and the navigation bar on the left side, which is closely resembles the micro-blogging platform’s app interface.
The redesign hasn’t gone down well with Twitter user many of whom have described the redesign as confusing. The list includes noteworthy names such as Uber whistlerblower Susan Fowler and the editor-in-chief of The Verge, Nilay Patel. “I’m really really loving this twitter redesign. It means I’m going to spend SO MUCH LESS TIME on here because I can’t figure out what on earth is going on,” Fowler wrote about the redesign.
“I’ve read so many pieces on the Twitter redesign and none of them mention that it now looks like… Facebook,” Patel tweeted.
The dislike for the Twitter redesign is apparent. Sadly Twitter is offering no direct way to go back to the old design. While that is true there is a way to work around this issue.
If you want to use the old version of Twitter’s web based platform, here’s what you need to do:
Temporary Fix
Remember, Twitter doesn’t offer a method to switch between the old design and the new design like you can switch between the dark and standard modes. That said, there is a temporary fix that will help you use the old design. Just follow these steps:
– Tap on More option in the navigation menu on the left side of your Twitter profile.
– Now tap on Settings and Privacy option.
– Next, tap on Directory in the About Twitter option.
– A separate window will open. Click on Home option.
Once you do this, your profile will temporarily go back to the old design. And you will see the new design as soon as you open Twitter on your web browser. If you are unable to see the design immediately, we recommend that you clear your browser cache before implementing the fix.
Good Twitter extension
If you don’t believe in temporary fix and are looking for a more long term solution, you can download the GoodTwitter extension on both, Firefox and Chrome. Once you download this extension, it automatically loads the older version of the site. It has been developed by Twitter user Zusor and the develper claims that the extension does not read your browsing history.
