The ‘R’ division over at Volkswagen is readying the prototypes of their latest projects – the Golf R420 and this T-Roc R. Now although both these cars are officially dead and aren’t expected to hit the showrooms (they are the victims of the dieselgate scandal), but the R-engineers are still hoping to get a thumbs up from the white-collar guys at VW.
If that happens, we expect the T-Roc ‘R’ to get a lowered chassis, bigger wheels and some sportier exterior details. Of course, it will also get the familiar VW 2-litre turbocharged engine with around 306bhp of power, allowing the T-Roc R to hit 100kmph from standstill in less than 5 seconds.
The standard T-Roc range, meanwhile, will get the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol and the 1.8-litre diesel engines that develop power between 140bhp to 180bhp and will be offered with both manual and automatic gearboxes.
The T-Roc is expected to hit the European markets later this year. It makes for a good candidate from the VW stable to compete against the Jeep Compass or the Hyundai Tucson in India. We hope VW brings the T-Roc to India to spice things up in the D-segment.
