Mahindra and Mahindra have upped their SUV game with the launch of the petrol version of their flagship SUV, the XUV500. At Rs 15.49 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), the petrol XUV will be badged ‘G’ and will be offered with automatic transmission only.
Mahindra has indigenously developed this 2.2-litre petrol engine under the m-Hawk series. The naturally aspirated mill develops 140bhp of power and 320Nm of torque, at par with its diesel counterpart. The petrol mill will come mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox only sourced from the Japanese gearbox manufacturer AISIN and will drive the rear wheels.
The G AT trim that the petrol XUV will be offered in comes replete with all the bells and whistles. It gets the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto along with automatic projector headlamps and rain sensing wipers. Along with keyless entry it has got push-button start, cruise control and the automatic climate control system with rear AC as well. The driver seat is 8-way adjustable and the steering can be adjusted for reach.
In terms of safety, you have dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and the electronic stability program with rollover mitigation built into it. There are no changes to the upholstery or the dashboard design when compared to the existing diesel models.
The petrol XUV500 will be available only in a few select cities right away and will be offered across the nation in a phased manner, depending upon the demand.
