Tech Tips: How to create Alexa home theatre with Amazon Fire TV, Echo devices

Amazon Echo

Amazon has released a new update for its Amazon Fire TV devices and its range of Echo smart speakers that enables users to create a home theatre system using their Alexa enabled devices. The new firmware update essentially allows users to pair up to two Echo smart speakers with their Fire TV devices wirelessly in a bid to play audio using the connected smart speakers by moonlighting the smart TV’s native speaker system.

Once you have updated your Alexa-enabled devices, all you need to do its open the Alexa app on your smartphone and connect your FireTV device with your Echo smart speakers. But before you start you will need to ascertain if your Alexa-enabled device is compatible to be used in the home theatre configuration.

Here is a list of devices eligible for the update:

— Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K

— Amazon Fire TV (3rd Generation)

— Fire TV Cube (2nd Generation)

— Echo Dot (3rd Generation)

— Echo (2nd Generation)

— Echo (3rd Generation)

Also, Amazon has listed four specific speaker configurations under which Fire TV devices will support home theatre system. Here are the details:

— 1.1 (one Echo device working as an external speaker with Echo Sub

— 2.0 (two Echo devices working as external speakers, one as left audio and one as right audio)

— 2.1 (two Echo devices working as external speakers, one as left audio and one as right audio, and on Echo Sub)

Once you have figured out if your devices are eligible for the update and the configuration that best suits your needs, all you need to do is follow these steps:

— Firstly, connect your Fire TV device and Echo smart speakers to the same Wi-Fi network and Amazon account.

— Now open the Alexa app and tap on the Devices icon on the lower right-hand side.

— Next tap on the plus icon on the upper right hand side.

— Tap on “Set Up Audio System” from the popup menu and then tap on “Home Cinema” on the next screen.

— Select your Fire TV device and then tap on “Next” to name your new Home Theatre system.

— Select the Echo smart speakers you would like to use as speakers.

— Now follow the on-screen instructions and you are good to go!
