Tech tips: How to enable dark mode on your iPhone

Apple rolled out iOS 13 update to iPhones last month. iOS 13 brought a host of new features onto Apple’s iPhone. This includes new privacy and security settings, an updated Camera app, a smarter Siri, Memoji Stickers and a Quick Path keyboard. iOS 13 update also brought Dark Mode on to Apple’s iPhones.

If you are wondering why dark mode then the answer is pretty simple. It is lighter on the eyes, it saves battery and it definitely is a pleasant change from iOS’s vibrant light theme. What adds to the overall allure of the dark mode is its robust implementation. Apple has not only redesigned its apps to adopt the system-wide dark theme but it has also bundled special dark theme-friendly wallpapers in the iOS 13 update, which balances the overall aesthetics of the theme.

But not all iPhone models are eligible to get iOS 13 update and by extension access to the dark mode. 7th generation iPod Touch, iPhone SE, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, R, iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max – are the only Apple devices that are eligible to get iOS 13 update.

If you have one of the above mentioned iPhones, here is how you can download iOS 13 on your iPhone:

— Open Settings app on your iPhone.

— Scroll down and tap on General option.

— Now tap on Software Updates.

— If you haven’t downloaded iOS 13 on your iPhone yet, you will see the option to download iOS 13.1.2, which is the latest version of Apple’s mobile OS available. But before you install iOS 13.1.2, you will have to download iOS 13.

— Tap on Install Updates option.

— Once iOS 13 has been downloaded, your iPhone will restart to install the software updates.

Once you have downloaded iOS 13, here is how you can enable Dark Mode on your iPhone:

— Open Settings app on your iPhone.

— Scroll down and tap on Display and Brightness option.

— Now tap on Dark option and your iPhone screen will go dark.

If you don’t want to use dark mode during the day time, you can schedule dark mode on your iPhone. Here’s what you need to do:

— In the Display and Brightness settings toggle the Automatic option.

— Now tap on Options below it. Here you be able to set the time frame during which Dark Mode will be active on your iPhone.

— Tap on Sunset to Sunrise option if you want your iPhone to go dark during the night.
Tap on Custom Schedule and enter the time when you want the Light mode and Dark mode to appear. And you are good to go.

Alternatively, you can also swipe down on your iPhone home screen and long press on the brightness icon to acess the direct controls to switch between the light and dark modes.
