Toreto Aqua Review

Toreto is an Indian firm that has been selling mobile accessories since 2013. Its range includes earphones, headphones and speakers, and the latest addition to its lineup is the Toreto Aqua, a waterproof Bluetooth speaker that is priced at around Rs. 3,000. Is it worth your time and money? Read on to find out.

Toreto Aqua design and features

The Toreto Aqua speaker ships in a box with clear plastic top that let you see its contents. You get the speaker itself, a Micro-USB cable, a small aux cable, and a user manual. The speaker is quite funky with gray being the dominant colour, and bright orange accents and buttons. The base is made in such a way that speakers point upwards at an angle when the unit is placed on a table, which helps direct audio towards your ears.

The speaker has a metallic grill on the front. The orange accents on the front and the hook at the back are made of plastic while the buttons and the rest of the body are rubberised. There’s a rubber flap at the back that keeps the Micro-USB port, the 3.5mm headphones socket and the microSD card slot waterproof. The Toreto Aqua weighs 340g which is spread across the unit well. Powering it is an 1800mAh battery.

Build quality is decent and the speaker is IPX7 rated. Toreto claims that it is resistant to water, shock, snow and dust. We did accidentally drop it a couple of times and it survived the impact without showing any signs of damage.

It has 1.5-inch drivers and has a rated output of 6W. There are four buttons on the top; two for volume control, a play/pause button, and a multifunction “M” button for power, toggling between modes and pairing Bluetooth devices. There is an LED between the four buttons that shows the state of the speaker, and a mic so you can make and receive voice calls when your phone is paired.

Toreto Aqua performance and battery life

Long-pressing the M button fires up the device, and the LED blinks rapidly waiting for a device to pair. To test the Toreto Aqua, we paired it with an Asus ZenFone AR (Review) and a OnePlus 5 (Review) with music streaming from Google Play Music and media from Amazon Prime Video and YouTube.

When we started testing this speaker, we were surprised at the volume it could put out. It could get really loud indoors, and we had to stick to a lower volume level. We found that the speaker’s volume couldn’t be controlled by a phone, and had to be adjusted independently.

We played MP3s as well as FLAC audio files, and it was quite hard to tell any difference between them. The overall audio quality of the Toreto Aqua is decent but it seems to go overboard with the highs. It is capable of producing some bass but the mids aren’t very clear. When playing songs with a good bass line at high volumes, the speaker would rock about on our table.

When listening to Levels by Avicii and Keep It Mello by Marshmello, we found the highs to be a little unpleasant at higher volumes in an enclosed room. When watching Le Mans on Amazon Prime Video the hybrid race cars did sound a little different though dialogue was clearly audible. Overall we found that this speaker performed better in open spaces than in closed rooms.

Playing audio files off a microSD card isn’t much of an issue. The Toreto Aqua can play MP3s but not FLAC files. The speaker plays a tone to notify you that a Bluetooth device has been paired or disconnected, and when switching between modes. This can be a little tricky as the cues are easy to miss.

Knowing the speaker is waterproof, we did dunk it in a swimming pool a couple of times. Once pulled out of the pool, it would continue playing songs without any trouble. The speaker would sound muffled with water in the drivers, but just had to bump the volume up to help the speaker push it out. We did check the rubber flap on the back and found that it can keep the ports dry even after multiple dips as long as you secure it properly.

The Toreto Aqua can keep playing music for over five hours, but needs over three hours to charge. It is also quite hard to gauge battery life. There is no obvious way to check how much time you have left before the battery will run out.

The Toreto Aqua does a few things well but it could do with some improvements. It looks good and has its waterproofing sorted out, but its output needs to be a little warmer and the mids need a boost. For now, it is safe to say that this is a good speaker for outdoor use, but not the best performer indoors. If you are looking for a bathroom speaker this isn’t ideal, but if you want to blast your tunes on a trek or a swim, this might do just fine.

2019 Nissan Altima will adopt the new Vmotion 2.0 design

2019 Nissan Altima will adopt the new Vmotion 2.0 design

Nissan unveiled the Vmotion 2.0 concept at the 2017 North American International Auto Show. Now it looks like the Japanese car maker will be gradually incorporating these design elements into its newest offering. A recent spy shot of the 2019 Nissan Altima confirms that the new mid-sized sedan is in the works and will be styled along the lines of the new Vmotion 2.0 concept.

The spotted car wears a camouflage, yet, we managed to get a glimpse of its restyled front. The grille has adopted the new V-shape, the headlamp assembly has been styled to look sleeker and it also houses the DRL inserts. Side proportions are not vastly different from its predecessor, however there could be a few tweaked shoulder and waist lines beneath the camouflage. The rear end is expected to be revamped as part of the update.

Inside the cabin, the new car will get a tablet style infotainment system and a flat bottom steering wheel. The dashboard is blacked out, however, the company has put in chrome inserts to add to the premium feel of the cabin.

Power source is expected to be the same in-line four units. However, the higher trims are expected to be offered with a V6 unit. The new Nissan Altima is expected to be unveiled later next year and could be dubbed as the 2019 model.

It is unlikely that Nissan will bring the Altima to the Indian market, however we can expect the current Nissan portfolio to adapt the Vmotion 2.0 concept design in their due update

LTE-enabled Apple Watch Series 3 said to debut by the end of the year

A report from Bloomberg cited ”person/persons familiar with the matter” four times, so we will approach this story with the deserved amount of skepticism.

According to the report, Apple could be releasing an LTE-enabled Apple Watch alongside the iPhone 8 or toward the end of the year. But according to “another person familiar with the matter” (from the same report, mind you) it could be delayed well into 2018”. Do you see where the skepticism comes in?

Anyhow, Apple had reportedly delayed an LTE-enabled version of the Watch before the Series 2 launched but had to put it off because it needed more time to improve overall battery life over an LTE connection, which is limited by the battery’s relatively smaller size compared to a smartphone. Speaking of LTE, Intel is slated to provide the modem chips for LTE. Qualcomm was Apple’s main modem supplier but the two companies are in a bit of a legal bind at the moment.

Back to the report, Apple was said to have already been talking to US carriers about its connected wearable. Carrier support would be limited at launch, though the four major US carriers are all said to plan to sell the new Watch.

1st-gen Apple Watch

Here’s why we think it’s still too early for Apple to release a new watch: Apple’s first watch was released in April of 2015 and the new Series 2 came out alongside the iPhone 7 in September of 2016, about 1.5 years later. Following this timeframe (because this is all we have to go off of) it’s more likely that Apple would launch a Series 3 Watch in Q2 of 2018 to offset the launch of its iPhone 8, which is supposed to start at $850. Furthermore, Tim Cook said that the Apple Watch’s sales have grown 50% year over year and is the #1 selling smartwatch “by a very wide margin”.

If you had a product and it was selling increasingly well, you’d want to ride the wave as long as possible, right? Apple would be jumping the gun if it released the Series 3 next to the iPhone 8 in September. We are just speculating here since, for all we know, Apple could even release a new Apple Watch next to every iPhone from here on out. A more likely scenario is Apple releasing an LTE-enabled Apple Watch Series 2 next to the iPhone 8.

This report is definitely one of the more obscure ones. So we personally won’t be holding our breaths for a new Apple Watch this September.

Suzuki officially releases more details of the Swift Sport

Suzuki officially releases more details of the Swift Sport

Suzuki released a single image of the all-new Swift Sport with a promise of global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. However, a few days ago, a brochure of the hot hatch was leaked on the internet, revealing more details of the much-awaited car. Now Suzuki has officially given out more details ahead of the Frankfurt debut.

The third generation of the Swift Sport wears a new and aggressive front bumper as compared to standard Swift on sale in Europe and Japan. The front grille is black mesh with a tweaked design while the all-new 17-inch alloys design is something usually seen on Italian performance cars. What’s new are the dual exhaust tips sticking out of the aggressive rear diffuser reflecting the sporty intentions of the Japanese hot hatch. The new Swift Sport, unlike the two generations before it, will be available in the four-door configuration only.

On the inside, the Swift Sport will get an all-black interior with contrast red stitching and blood-red inserts all around the cabin. The tachometer too gets a red treatment, but the center screen on the instrument cluster now comes with a boost gauge in a typical JDM fashion. The infotainment screen will come with smartphone integration as well. Everywhere else, the cabin remains the same.

It has been confirmed now that the engine will be a turbocharged 1.4-litre Boosterjet from the Suzuki Vitara S. The turbocharged unit replaces the naturally aspirated 1.6-litre unit from the outgoing car, while the power bumps to around 145bhp and the torque is rated at 220Nm. Since it is based on the new platform, the new Swift Sport will be a lot lighter than the previous car, tipping the scale at a low 870kg. Thus with an impressive power-to-weight ratio, the new Swift Sport will be a ballistic pocket rocket. All the crazy power will be sent to front wheels only via a six-speed manual transmission.

The new Swift Sport will make its world premiere at the Frankfurt stage on 12 September. CarWale will be there as well. Stay tuned.

The Leathery, Scrotal Gams On This Tour De France Cyclist Will Fuck You Up

The Leathery, Scrotal Gams On This Tour De France Cyclist Will Fuck You Up

Whilst there are many, many reasons that I refuse to do sport of any kind, number one being it’s really hard and number two being I don’t want to, I’ll admit I never considered the fact that my legs might turn into grot-looking tree-trunks covered in aged scrotum skin, one of them. Until now that is.

Behold the slightly vom-inducing results of being one of the people insane enough to take on the Tour De France, the cycling world’s foremost event which sees elite sportsman destroy themselves for 3500km, via this Instagrampost from Polish rider Pawel Poljanski.

FUUUUAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRK. All aboard the Nope Train to Nopesville.

Commenting how after 16 legs of the monstrous cycling course that his legs were looking “a little tired”, Poljanski seems to severely understate how cooked his lower half is.
Look at the veiny, lycra-tanned, alien-looking pair of thousand year old baseball bats.
I mean just wrap your eyes around what looks like the surface of a foreign planet, one constantly iberated by unfathomably vicious acid hurricanes.
SIMPLY TRY TO TAKE IN these oversized chicken drumsticks cooked by a child with only a passing understanding of how kitchen equipment works.
Ok, I’m done. This is rank and physical excercise should be banned. That is all.

This might be the most heartwarming video game commercial ever

Image result for This might be the most heartwarming video game commercial ever

Dragon Quest has never been as popular in North America as it is in Japan. In Japan, the release of a new Dragon Quest game is a massive, world-consuming event. It’s so big that (possibly apocryphal) stories have popped up about the government forcing publisher Square Enix to only release new games in the series on Saturdays, to avoid obsessed gamers skipping out on school and work to stand in line at a store.

While the veracity of that urban legend is debatable, the spirit of it — and recognition of the impact Dragon Quest has had on so many lives — is captured perfectly in the video above. This is a Japanese commercial for the upcoming release of Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age. It was released a few months ago, but we saw it floating around on Twitteryesterday, as the game nears release in Japan.

Don’t worry if you’re not a Dragon Quest fan; you’re still likely to get this commercial if you’ve been playing games your whole life. After a cute montage of opening screens from all the past Dragon Quest games, we see the faces of different people scrunched up, staring at the screen, playing — people across a variety of ages, genders and appearances.

We see a student daydreaming about the game at school, doodling a slime in his notebook. We see an office worker absentmindedly watching a trailer for it on his computer. We see a convenience store employee nearly falling asleep, presumably because he was up all night grinding out another few levels.

And most importantly, we see them playing. Covered up under a blanket. Ignoring dinner. Even crying at a powerful plot twist.

In one of the commercial’s best moments, a young man is leaning forward playing what appears to be Dragon Quest 8 on PlayStation 2. A woman sitting next to him is looking to plug in a hair curler and accidentally unplugs … the television? Or is it the PlayStation itself? Has he lost his progress? No! This is a heartbreaking scenario we’ve probably all been through at one moment or another.

Whether you care about Dragon Quest or not, there’s something wonderful and moving about seeing these shared experiences. The investment on display here transcends any specific game, just like it transcends the country of Japan. Virtually everyone who plays video games has felt this stuff before, has found themselves so totally transported to another place that they’re thinking about it all through class or work the next day.

There’s something magical about that.

Dragon Quest 11 launches tomorrow, July 29, for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4 in Japan. A Switch version of the game is also planned, and Square Enix announced todaythat Dragon Quest 11 will make its way to North America and other Western regions in 2018.

Samsung overtakes Intel to become the biggest chip maker in Q2 2017

Yesterday Samsung reported its record quarter results which were spearheaded by its chip business, which earned $15.7B in revenue and $7.2B in profit.

That’s almost twice as much compared to Intel’s operating income of $3.8B on $14.8B revenue in the same second quarter of 2017 – a record quarter for Intel at that.

What’s interesting here is that no one has surpassed Intel in the last 24 years and Samsung did it without making a single desktop chipset – only catering to mobiles and wearables.

Intel has failed to make an impact on mobile despite its various efforts with Atom and it still hasn’t figured out wearables.

Expect Samsung’s rise to continue throughout 2017 as the giant is developing mobile chip solutions for the automotive industry as well.
